PostSubject: Flowers and their Spiritual Powers   Thu Oct 13, 2016 7:43 am

Since the beginning of time, mankind has appreciated flowers for their beauty and complexity. We have grown and cultivated them, cataloged their varieties, and carved out space in our calendars to send them to each other. Outside of their aesthetic and sensory delights, flowers carry a rich spiritual significance.

As a living thing, flowers share certain characteristics with other life. Unlike animals, however, flowers are more directly connected to the earth. Flowers grow directly from the dirt by harnessing the natural energy of the rain, wind and sun. Their very existence is the product of a complex web of nature. Flowers rely not only on weather patterns and nutrients in the soil but also on the inquisitive feeding activities of animals to spread their pollen and allow them to reproduce. Because of these tenuous connections, flowers have a deep seated anchor in the spiritual realm. By keeping the right flowers close, you can share in some of these spiritual benefits.

Bird of Paradise
The Bird of Paradise is a militant, watchful flower, always on the alert. Planting Bird of Paradise around your place of meditation or worship can help keep your spiritual journeys free of distractions and doubts.

Cacti are a tough, worldly plant on the outside. When it comes time for them to flower, however, their inner beauty is revealed. You can take advantage of this in your journeys towards trance-like meditations by surrounding yourself with flowering cacti. Just as the flower springs from the cactus and turns to the heavens, so shall your inner journey open up to deeper enlightenment.

Carnations of all colors have powerful spiritual significance. In order to maximize their benefits, wear them close to you in a corsage or headdress. Red carnations can help ease the burden of spiritual decisions and guide your inner voice to the correct conclusion. White carnations not only project an image of purity, they also can help reduce the cravings for earthly pleasures. Finally, pink carnations help to establish a maternal relationship with the natural world, allowing you to find your spiritual place more easily. By taking advantage of the right color of carnation, these potent flowers can help you on any phase of your spiritual journey.

Chrysanthemum are an old, respected symbol of discipline and devotion. By surrounding your area of spiritual practice with these flowers, you send a signal to other believers of your dedication to the spiritual journey. Chrysanthemums help to strengthen your dedication and resolve when you undertake difficult journeys such as fasts or ritual sacrifices.

Daisies are a soft and lighthearted flower whose presence helps to draw like-minded people together and help them mesh. Daisies can smooth out dissent and create a sense of happy peace and calm. If you are preparing a shared altar, be sure to include some daisies to keep your group cohesive and content.

Hyacinths are a complex and wonderful flower that masks revelations and allows you to wallow in the mystery along your spiritual journey. Rather than hastily arrive at an answer with no meaning, Hyacinths help you to appreciate the fullness of your journey and reach the end only when you are ready. While they are not for everyone at all times, careful and planned use of hyacinth can bring out a rich fullness that might have otherwise been absent from your spiritual journey.

Lilies are a flower of strengthening bonds and commitments. Whenever an oath or vow is to be taken, be sure to have lilies at hand. They are especially helpful at weddings. If the floral arrangements for a marriage don’t include lilies, consider wearing a corsage of them in order to ensure the success of your friend’s engagement. The closer your proximity to a lily when you take a vow, the more likely you’ll stick with it forever.

As a warning, lilies are poisonous to cats. Be sure to keep your feline friends a safe distance away.

Lotuses are a flower that represents consistency in spirituality. No matter what time of day, lotuses symbolize and strengthen your connection to both this world and the spiritual one beyond. Consider planting these flowers near any spots you meditate near frequently in order to help your forays become more consistent and fulfilling.

Orchids are a marker on your spiritual journey. When you overcome a major milestone, plant an orchid in a sunlight place near your spiritual nexus. Rather than harnessing the power of the orchid, look back at it as a marker of where you were when you planted it and compare it to who you are now. Try not to read too much into the health of the flower — the wilting of a frail orchid signifies your growth beyond the point where you planted it, while a healthy blooming flower means that your lessons are still living on inside of you.

Roses are a popular, beautiful flower thought to signify love. Not all of the symbolism attributed to roses is legitimate or spiritual in nature, however. Think of roses as a sacramental flower. Use it to add a more serious tone to the floral arrangements you use in your most important rituals, but only sparingly — its power is not to be underestimated.

These flowers can help you find meaning in concepts too complex for words. Rather than getting stuck on the details, the presence of a tulip helps you accept the knowledge you find in your spiritual journey and integrate it into your practices. Planting tulips in your place of worship can help you to achieve your goals of spiritual peace and connection. These little flowers are connected with higher planes and are at one with the ideals of salvation and transcendence. When you see a tulip, reflect on its connection with the world around you and the invisible spiritual world.

Flowers have a deep historical connection with spirituality. When religious disagreements forced the censorship of art in 17th century Holland, artists turned towards flowers as a way to depict the divine without offending the powers of the time. These beautiful blooms are a spiritual gift to us on our paths towards deeper spiritual understanding.
